Suzanne Teng

Suzanne Teng is the winner of the Los Angeles Music Awards, International Acoustic Music Awards (Instrumental Division) and two-time winner of the Independent Music Awards (Best New Age Artist). Her critically acclaimed albums have received nominations for the Hollywood Music Awards, Just Plain Folks Awards, New Age Voice Awards, and a candidacy for a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Age album. “Mystic Journey,” “Miles Beyond,” and “Enchanted Wind” appear on numerous publication and radio “Top Albums of the Year” lists including the Public Radio International nationally syndicated show “Echoes,” UK Top Albums in New Age and are listed by Amazon.com among the Most Requested New Age albums on the Radio. Billboard Magazine selected her recording Mystic Journey as a Critic’s Choice and wrote “Highly recommended…impressive solo debut.”

Suzanne Teng, is a flutist, recording artist, composer, endorsed artist for YAMAHA and teacher originally from Berkeley, California. She received her Master’s degree in music from Boston University’s School for the Arts and after traveling adventures across the globe, furthered her graduate studies at UCLA’s Department of Ethnomusicology where she completed the coursework for the Ph.D. focusing on music and healing.

In performance and on recordings, Suzanne plays flute, alto, bass and contrabass flutes, piccolo, flutes from China (dizi, bawu and hu lu se)dizi, Turkish ney and zurna, Indian bansuri, Indonesian suling, panpipes, recorders, pennywhistles, the Native American flute, ocarinas, flutes from Africa (fulani) and Eastern Europe (dvoyanka) and Egyptian double reed instruments (mijwiz, argul) as well as percussion and voice.

She performs internationally with her partner, world percussionist Gilbert Levy, and their contemporary world music ensemble Suzanne Teng & Mystic Journey, a unique instrumental ensemble that blends exotic melodies with global grooves on a multitude of instruments from around the world to create an original style of global fusion that is “sensual and serene” (BILLBOARD MAGAZINE) as well as ecstatic and celebratory. Selected several years in a row as a Music Connection Magazine’s HOT 100, Mystic Journey also includes Dann Torres on oud, guitar and electric sitar and Jon Ossman on string bass and Indian fiddle. By combining musical elements from the world’s diverse cultures Mystic Journey creates a new world music that represents the unity of all people.
