"Musically, I turned to sounds from my yoga study. Open to closing the wounds of loss, I started listening purposefully, absorbing the music on my Krishna Das CDs. I found Snatam Kaur and David Newman and Dasi. I re-embraced Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings. I also discovered that he played keyboards and chanted daily, even at his lectures. Eventually, I spent time at the Guru Sri Satchadananda Ashram studying the art of Kirtan with Newman. Satchadanada, incidentally, was the guru that opened Woodstock. I came to see that by giving something back, I would be proportionately healed from my loss. This has taken place. I continue to sing these meditations, and when I do, something good always happens. Over the last year, I have participated in home Kirtan concerts and am open to invitations to perform in chant settings. This is part of the seva or serving process.
"Blossom Of Transformation" dedicated to and inspired by Guruji Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, comes forth from my love of yoga, music, and life. Yoga is transformative. I experienced that on the first day of my Ashtanga practice. For starters, the sound of everyone breathing together, the profound Ujjayi breath was mind-blowing. After almost 11 years of daily practice, I have been transformed: the blossom is opening."
